New year, new site!! I can't believe that it's officially 2020... and that Les and I are getting married this year! I knew as soon as we turned this corner into the new year it would suddenly feel like we had a million things to do. The last time I did a Wedding Update post was back in October (right before I found my dress!!) so I'm due for another one soon. But in the meantime... welcome to the new site! ***Before I forget, make sure that you re-subscribe to receive email alerts when new posts are published! Over my Christmas break I moved over to a new site design for a couple of reasons. One, I wanted to clean it up a little bit and adopt a more minimalist design (I'm wondering if the minimalist trend will continue into this next decade)! Two, I wanted to build a new site, still using Wix, but on their ADI platform because this would allow me more flexibility to change designs in the future. My old site didn't allow me the capability to change templates, and I actually had to manually move every. blog. post. over. And, even though I accomplished this all over the holidays, a few of the posts I moved over somehow disappeared. So please bear with me while I move a few more past posts over.
With all of that said, what better way to kick off the new year— which I THINK might end up being my favorite year for obvious reasons — than with a Friday Favorites! This list was particularly easy to compose since our friends and family were so, so sweet to us this Christmas. Here we go!
1. Lenox x kate spade Wedding Bells ornament
Right after Christmas, I had lunch with my bridesmaid Ashley and we did our little gift exchange. She nailed it. I love adding ornaments to our collection that mark specific milestones (when Les and I got our master's, our trip to Europe, etc.) and these wedding bells are such a special way to commemorate our engagement and our upcoming wedding! The picture doesn't do justice to how beautiful they are, especially when paired with the forest green ribbon that they hang from. My mom has a beautiful glass heart ornament that my dad gave her on their first wedding anniversary, and I always loved looking for it every Christmas when we unpacked all of our family ornaments. Les and I can't wait to hang this one our tree for so many years to come.
2. Isle of Paradise Tanning Drops
Right before New Years, I stopped by my friend Hannah's to see her new apartment and say hello. We got to talking about these Isle of Paradise self tanning drops which I had seen a couple of other bloggers mention. Hannah had been using, and loving, them, and when I texted her after I left to have her remind me of the name she was sweet enough to send me a bottle! I can't help but laugh at the instructions, which tell you to add 2-12 drops to your daily moisturizer. That's a big range. I've been starting gradually with just two, and I feel like it's already giving me more of a glow! I'm going to add a bit more going forward, and I would also be really curious to try the medium "Golden Glow" shade in the summer! As someone who has never used a tanning bed or gotten a spray tan, I find this a really easy way to add just a little bit of color, especially in the dead of winter!
3. Herbivore Hydrate + Glow Collection
Speaking of new beauty routines, Sarah gifted me this Hydrate + Glow kit from Herbivore for Christmas, and I'm OBSESSED. I had never tried any of their products before, but I'll definitely be a customer now. It comes with a Face Mist, Facial Oil, Mask, and Moisture Cream. As someone who has, in my opinion, super complex skin, I'm always looking for new ways to keep it under control. On the one hand, I'm prone to a pretty oily T section, but at the same time, I also have seborrheic dermatitis (a genetic condition... thanks dad). When it flares up, I end up with really dry, flaky patches of skin in the corners of my nose and around my eyebrows. It can be kind of hard to balance both, but I've been finding that using a little bit of the facial oil every few days has really helped to even out my skin overall, not to mention it will make your skin feel unbelievably smooth. My other favorite in the collection is the face mist. It smells heavenly, and I love spritzing a bit on my face when I first wake up. There's nothing better than finding a new product that does exactly what you've been searching for.
4. Artifact Uprising Desk Calendar
I've actually been looking at Artifact for one idea for our guest book, and Les and I registered for one of their wedding albums! So I was super excited when Caroline and her husband gave me this stunning desk calendar for Christmas. I loveeeee that we (and our loved ones!) have been finding more and more ways to use our engagement photos. It's also really cool to see which ones Caroline chose to highlight because each month we'll get to enjoy a new photo, some of which were ones that I had more or less overlooked when we first got our photos back! Such a sweet gift.
5. We Decided on Forever Sign
How beautiful is this sign that my Godmother gave Les and I for Christmas? Every Christmas, my Auntie Rae and I exchange a little something because, as we like to say, she's my Fairy Godmother and I'm her Fairy Goddaughter (or FGM and FGD for short). This year, she went above and beyond. I couldn't wait to hang this piece when we got home from all of our holiday travels, and I absolutely love being greeted by it as soon as I get home. I love that this is something we'll have forever, and that it was given to us by someone so special.
I hope that you enjoy the new site, and that everyone's new year is off to a great start! I can't wait to share more in 2020. Happy Friday!
