Holy cannoli there is so much beauty in today's Friday Favorites. This week, admittedly, was very bittersweet—that seems to be a common theme lately! This was our last week staying with my parents in Maine. I've shared this before, but when Les, Nestlie, and I came up on St. Patrick's Day to ride out the pandemic, we thought it would be for maybe two weeks. We were talking the other day with my parents about how in some ways it doesn't feel like it's been three months, at all; but at the same time it feels like ages ago that there was snow on the ground and that we were hunkered down inside doing puzzles and drinking hot tea.
In more recent weeks, we've been out in the garden, around the fire pit, playing Wiffle ball, and out on the boats... a hard lifestyle give up! But, I'll be back in my office a few days a week after the Fourth of July, so it's home to the North Shore for us. I know it'll be nice to be back in our own place, but it'll be hard to beat being on the water in Maine.
Luckily I have some amazing Friday Favorites this week to lift my spirits! Not to mention Les's birthday this past Tuesday, and mine on Sunday! Here's to 27, and this week's Friday Favorites:
1. Bridal Bundle Giveaway
If you haven't seen this on my Instagram yet, go look now because this giveaway ends TONIGHT at midnight! I teamed up with fellow North Shore blogger Alura from @catsandcoffeebythesea for a bridal bundle giveaway. Alura and I are, coincidentally, both brides-by-the-sea who had to postpone our weddings this year due to the pandemic. We thought it would be really fun to give back to a fellow bride-to-be with some products that we love! I actually bought myself this darling Bride bag back in October and absolutely adore it. The pom poms, the rope lettering, the wicker... what's not to love?! We thought the kate spade tumbler would be perfect for water or iced coffee (or a mojito for that matter) this summer. And the starfish Lisi Lerch earrings were just released, and would be such a cute accessory for a summer bridal shower, bachelorette, or even rehearsal dinner. Zoom in on the beading details— they're gorgeous. If you're a bride-to-be, entering the giveaway is super easy. And if you're not, please share with any brides you know!
How to enter:
Find the give-away post on my feed and tag your bridesmaids or a fellow bride-to-be in the comments!
Find the give-away post on Alura's feed and give it a like.
Bonus: share my Instagram give-away post to your story for an extra entry!
Easy as that. The winner will be pulled tomorrow!!
2. Peony Explosion
If you have been following me for long enough, chances are you know by now that my favorite flower is the peony. Actually "favorite flower" is be putting it lightly— mild obsession might be more accurate. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to be here in Maine for when my mom's peonies all bloomed (the fluffy white peonies in the photo) throughout last week. Not only that, but this past weekend my sister and her husband came up to celebrate Father's Day, and for a little early birthday celebration for both Les and I!
Their gift to me included the yellow and pink peony blooms from their own garden. Kelly actually picked them about a week in advance when they were just buds and then refrigerated them so that I could watch them bloom when she gave them to me. Who knew you could do that? They also gave me these two absolutely gorgeous coffee table books— London in Bloom features beautiful, floral-ridden shots from around the city and has caused me to add so many treasured destinations to my London bucket list. And, I have already learned so much from the Peonies book! I was able to identify the yellow variety from my sister's garden as the Bartzella, a type of Japanese peony. I absolutely LOVE coffee table books and can't wait to add these to my colorful stack when I get home.
3. We are the Kernans Welcome Mat
Kelly and Tom were also so thoughtful to give me this custom welcome mat from Etsy for my birthday, too! Kelly had ordered it for my bridal shower but decided to give it to me early following our postponement. We may not be "The Kernans" quite yet, but after almost nine years, I think we're close enough. :) One of the things we've been most excited to do when we get home to the North Shore is to set our patio back up, and this will make the sweetest addition!
4. Leith Ruched Tank Dress
I shared this dress last May but I'm really excited to say that Nordstrom brought it back this season in SEVEN colors! It's easy, flattering, a super comfortable jersey-type material, and it can be dressed up or down, especially in black! Right now they're between $30 and $40 depending on the color. I'm wearing black on the left and then navy heather on the right! Might just have to add burgundy rose to my closet next. I'm5'4" and wearing a size Small in both.
5. Fizzy Watermelon Mojito
Over the weekend I asked Les to concoct a watermelon mojito for me, and it turned out way better than I expected! I opted for a margarita glass instead of a more traditional highball glass, but I loved sipping on these all weekend long. I can say with 100% confidence that this my new favorite summer cocktail! Here's how to whip up your own. This recipe makes 4 glasses (or a small pitcher).
1 cup of white rum (we used Bacardi) 1.5 cans of plain seltzer Juice of 1 lime 4 tsps sugar A handful of mint leaves 1/8 of a watermelon (my mom had bought one of those quarter wedges of watermelon from the grocery store and we used half of that)
Muddle your mint leaves and watermelon in the bottom of your pitcher; add your rum, seltzer, lime juice, and sugar; stir, and then serve over ice! We poured ours over a slotted spoon into a glass to strain out the mint, watermelon chunks, and seeds. So very refreshing. Let me know in the comments if you give them a try!
That's all for this week! If you need me, I'll be sipping a Fizzy Watermelon Mojito and turning 27 this weekend. Eek!
