Wedding Planning Update #2

Last time I checked in, we had just hit the one year mark until our wedding day! Since then, I'd say we checked off three large items: I booked my hair & makeup artists, we sent out our Save the Dates, and we booked our florist! I thought it would be fun to share a little bit more about how we've been choosing our vendors.

Two of the easier vendors to choose were our caterer and our photographer. For catering, our venue, Misselwood, only has three caterers that they work with and you have to choose one. While that might seem frustrating for some, I actually found it incredibly helpful and somewhat of a relief. This saved us from having to do our own research and consultations to find out pricing, and we didn't have to schedule a bunch of tastings. Misselwood's caterers are all reputable (otherwise they wouldn't partner with them) and we were able to try samples of their food and see examples of their displays at Misselwood's wedding show. Because of that, the caterer was the first vendor we booked!

As for our photographer, I've gushed about her pictures before, but booking Kelly Dillon was a must for me! I hardly did any other research (besides to compare some pricing to learn what wedding photography typically costs) because after seeing her photos, I knew I wouldn't fall in love with anyone's work the same way.

Another no-brainer was our cake vendor! If you read my post on my sister's bridal shower back in May, you know that her new mother-in-law is a professional baker. Right after Kelly's wedding, she very generously offered to gift Les and I our wedding cake, and we couldn't be more grateful. How stunning were Kelly and Tom's cakes?! Yes, cakes plural. They had three!

Les and I can't wait to work with her on our flavor and design!

One of the harder vendors to find and book was our videographer. This was tough because there were so many to choose from, to research, and to consult with to learn their pricing and packages. Videography can be crazy expensive, but it's something that both Les and I knew we wanted. And if we were doing it, I wanted to do it right, and I wanted a drone. Is that so much to ask? ;) I just love the sweeping overhead shots that I've seen in other wedding videos, and I knew that I wanted to capture the breathtaking views of Misselwood — both the estate itself and the ocean it overlooks. After speaking with a few online, a coworker of mine mentioned that a fellow colleague of ours has a videography business on the side. Sold!! His work looks stunning and, of course, he has a drone. I know that the video will be one of our favorite keepsakes from our wedding!

Check out the rest of our list below to see what we have left to do, and if you've planned a wedding, please let me know what we're forgetting!
