What I'm Wearing Weekly #12

Top: J. Crew Factory | Shorts: J. Crew Factory | Necklace: J. Crew Factory (sold out, similar here and here). | Bag: Tory Burch | Shoes: Tory Burch | Sunglasses: Izipizi

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a romper? Nope! They're separates! Who else has jumped on the monochromatic trend this season? Personally, I'm all for it. This particular pair of shorts and top are from J. Crew Factory, and I love them both for several reasons!

First, I love that they can be worn together, or separate for completely different looks. Next, I love the detailing on both! The top has a scalloped bottom (you can't quite see it here because of my half-tuck) and somewhat of a butterfly opening in the back.

As far as the shorts go, I really like that they're on the longer side (a 5" inseam), but more than that I really like the quality of the basketweave cotton material. For sizing, I would say the top runs just a tad big in the body, (I'm wearing an XS) and the shorts run true to size (I’m in a 2).

I wish I could say I wore this somewhere fun (doesn't it seem like the perfect outfit for shopping or brunch?), but no such luck. This week is all about helping Les study! We're talking hours of flash cards... So instead, when the sun came out the other night we took a break and I threw on this fresh-from-the-mail outfit and we took some pictures on the trails right next to our apartment.

As far as the bag goes...what can I say? I fell in love with it as soon as it came out this season and I've been using it a ton on weekends. It's such a nice, neutral color, but the extra removable strap and yellow leather bag charm add a really cute touch. It's the little bit of additional color that this outfit needed!

Next time you find a pattern you love and you're not sure if you want to get it in a top or bottom, take it from me: get both!
