What's Up Wednesday

We made it to the middle of the week! If you've been reading for a while, you know I really don't like the term "hump day." It just bugs me. So I avoid it at all costs. :) Normally I share a "What I'm Wearing Weekly" on Wednesdays, but today I'm doing something a little different! A blogger I follow (MixandMatchMama) hosts a little link-up on the last Wednesday of every month where she responds to these prompts below. I thought it would be fun to share alongside that today! So here we go.

What We're Eating this Week

Les and I have only been doing grocery pickup rather than going into the store since we got home from Maine, so we've had to be really strategic about our meals and plan ahead more than we usually would. The plus side is I know exactly what we'll be eating this week! One of the dinners we'll make is our favorite Firecracker Meatballs with jasmine rice. These were from a Hello Fresh recipe! You can check it out in this post. And while technically this is a "drinking" rather than "eating," I'm still on a major watermelon mojito kick, especially since our mint is thriving out on the patio (scroll to the bottom of this post for the recipe)!

What I'm Reminiscing About

This past weekend would have been my bachelorette with eight of my favorite girls. It actually didn't occur to me until I sat down to write this! Either way, this time last year I was away for my sister Kelly's bachelorette, which was truly a weekend to remember. We had the best time in Martha's Vineyard, so I can't help but reminisce about that! You can check out my recap of the weekend below, and see what the BIG surprise was for my sister!

What I'm Loving

Pre-pandemic, I used to text Les at least once a day saying "I miss Nestlie." I just miss her little face all day when I'm at work! If you're new here, Nestlie is our six-year-old chihuahua-dachshund mix. These past four months, I have been absolutely loving being home with her. She's the true definition of a lap dog, and has been so uplifting during this time. And as much as we've been loving it, I think Nestlie loves it even more. I'm glad that even though I'll be going back to my office soon, Les will still be working from home for the foreseeable future!

What We've been Up To

This past weekend, my sister and her husband hosted a BEAUTIFUL brunch at their place. Les and I drove up for the day and met my parents there, who drove down from their house for the day as well. And, they had my grandparents with them who I hadn't seen in months! They've been staying with my parents for the past week. We were able to enjoy a wonderful afternoon outside (and distanced). It was a really, really nice day, and so fun for my sister to host her first little soirée at her new house!

What I'm Dreading

Ok so I wouldn't actually qualify this as "dreading," but I'm feeling "eh" about our would-have-been wedding weekend in a little over a month. After Les and I made the decision to postpone to 2021 back at the end of April, we decided to book a trip to Charleston for that weekend and the week after. We wanted to go somewhere that neither of us had been, and do something special just the two of us. We thought it would be a really fun distraction that weekend, and more importantly something to look forward to this September! Well, it's looking like that's not going to happen. We knew that was a possibility when we booked our hotel, but it's still a bummer. So, Les and I are just trying to decide how we want to spend that weekend and if we still want to take a few extra days off work to enjoy time to ourselves. So much is up in the air! You can read all of my thoughts on our postponement here.

What I'm Working On

I've been doing a lot of organizing and cleaning lately. After spending three months at my parent's in Maine, it sort of made me realize how much stuff we had at home that we really didn't need. In particular, I'm that person that has a really hard time getting rid of clothes. I could go five years without wearing something and still think I might need or want it at some point. Although to be fair, so is Les. He has a whole bin of clothing he hasn't touched since before our last move in our storage unit. So once we got back to our apartment at the start of this month, I went right into clean-out mode. We donated a few bags of clothes, and I brought some things to my local consignment shop. I can't say the same for Les... he retained most of his things in storage. Sigh.

What I'm Excited About

So sort of counter to purging old clothes, I'm super excited for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Fall is my FAVORITE season for the weather, the fashion, and the general feeling of it. Picking up a few new-this-season items that are on sale just adds to the fun. I'm working on a post now about what I've bought in past years that you can look for (in updated versions) in this year's sale! Like my raincoat, jeans, and rainboots!

What I'm Watching/Reading

As far as reading goes I have very much fallen off the bandwagon. I go through periods of time where I'm reading 6-7 books a month, or none at all. Recently, it's been the latter. As for what I'm watching, Les and I started Friends from Season 1 so we put that on in the evenings for a bit. And then we've been watching random movies like Accepted with Justin Long and Blake Lively, and then oddly enough several Jesse Eisenberg movies like Zombieland 2, 30 Seconds or Less, and Adventureland. See? Super random.

What I'm Listening To

Taylor Swfit's new album... on repeat. What does everyone think of Folklore?! My favorites are The One, The Last Great American Dynasty, Peace, Exile, and Seven. Not a huge fan of Mirrorball or My Tears Richochet.. and I go back and forth on Cardigan. Either way, what a huge surprise when she launched it!!

What I'm Wearing

Give me all the rompers! While working from (and otherwise mostly staying) home, I've been throwing on easy dresses and rompers, especially in this heat. These are two of my favorites, one new and one old! I just got this one from Amazon the other day and loveeeee it. It comes in a cute navy tropical pattern, too. The fabric is actually really high quality, and the adjustable straps are perfect.

The only thing that would make it better would be if it had pockets, like this one from H&M! Mine is pretty old, but this one is cute and similar.

What I'm Doing this Weekend

I don't think we have a single plan... I just suggested to Les that if it isn't too hot (or crowded) we go eat dinner outside at the golf club across the street, so we'll see about that! I'm also seriously considering buying a kiddy pool to put on our patio just to sit in. I haven't swam in a pool in so long, and I'm CRAVING it. I think the watermelon makes sense since I'll be sipping my watermelon mojitos, but the ice cream is also adorable. Thoughts?

What I'm Looking forward to Next Month

This one gives me all the mixed feelings. So I was supposed to go back to working in my office at the beginning of this month (which is why Les and I came home from Maine when we did) but it ended up getting pushed back until mid-August. While I'm a little nervous about going back in a few weeks (and let's be real, working from home is the dream), I didn't realize how much I missed my work friends until I saw them last week at our department's retreat. These girls give me life. They're the reason why I genuinely get FOMO on vacation or sick days. It was so reenergizing to see them and it made me feel so much better about working in the office again. I lucked out with the best co-workers, who really should just be qualified as "friends" instead of "work friends." My boss is one of my bridesmaids, after all!

What else is New

I think that about covers it! We've just been doing a lot of working, cooking, and watching movies. And actually Les and I have been having game nights and playing Uno, Yahtzee, Cribbage, and Monopoly! The verdict so far has been I'm the Queen of Cribbage and Les is the Mayor of Monopoly. :)

Thanks for hopping on to read this Wednesday — see you Friday!
