What's Up Wednesday

Hi friends! Happy turkey week!! I wasn't sure I'd make it back on the blog before Thanksgiving, but I decided to do a little What's Up Wednesday post today. Which is kind of funny, because not a whole lot has been up. But, if you're new here it'll be a fun way to jump right in to my life! Or at least my life in 2020, which, like most, is not routine or ideal! But anyways... here we go!

What We're Eating this Week

I shared this on a recent Friday Favorites, but Les and I have been all about Trader Joe's frozen meals recently. They're inexpensive, they're easy, and they're typically delicious. Some of our favorites include their French onion soup, steak & stout pot pies, mushroom ravioli, gorgonzola gnocchi, and tempura cauliflower. In addition to eating from our TJ's stock pile, I did make one of Les's favorite meals on Monday night: homemade chicken pot pie. He says mine is the best he's ever had (!!!!). I'll let you in on a little secret; the recipe I use is just Pillsbury's classic Chicken Pot Pie. Super easy, and it turns out delicious every time. And, if you're wondering: yes. I did photoshop my pie onto a marble background because the photo I took of it was on top of our messy black cook top and I hated it.

What I'm Reminiscing About

I recently hit the three-year mark at my job which is super hard to believe. This is really corny, but time truly does fly when you're having fun. The reason I'm reminiscing about my work-a-versary is because my job has brought me so many incredible things. For one, it led to the town that Les and I live in and love. It has also brought me some of the most incredible friends, including two of my bridesmaids! My life changed in such an amazing way after starting my current job, and I'm so so lucky to work with the people that I do. I just can't believe it's been three years!

What I'm Loving

All the Christmas shopping! Admittedly I'm super bummed to not be doing my usual shopping in-person at cute holiday markets or at one of our favorite shopping centers nearby, but that won't stop me from having fun picking out the perfect gifts online. Right now I'm in THREE Secret Santas; one with my immediate family, one with my girlfriends, and one at work, so I've been having fun scouting out presents for my people. Some of my favorite online shops for the holidays are Anthropologie, Nordstrom, and Uncommon Goods. They all have great gifting sections! For a little inspiration, here's what's on my wishlist this year!

What We've been Up To

I really could combine this question with what we've been watching and reading because that's really all we've been up to. We're not doing a whole lot at all; just staying distanced, safe, and pretty busy with work. We did visit my sister and brother-in-law a few weekends ago (members of our bubble) so it was nice to get out of our apartment for a bit. Les was able to help my BIL with some log-splitting and yard-work, and I helped my sister do some (early) decorating for Christmas! We've also started to do some decorating of our own (see What I'm Working On)! And, we tried somewhat unsuccessfully to get a nice picture of Nestlie at my sister's Christmas Tree farm (more on that later) and she wasn't too cooperative. But she's still pretty cute!

What I'm Dreading

This is kind of a love/hate dreading/looking forward to situation. On the one-hand, I am a homebody at heart. If you give me the choice of going out or staying in on a Saturday night, I will opt for staying in about 95% of the time. So when the pandemic first started, it was an easy transition for me to just stay home and lay low. Pictured above are just a *few* of the puzzles I did this past March and April! By summer, it was nice to get outside to see some friends and be a bit more social. But now that things are taking a turn for the worse in most states, and the cold weather is starting to come, I'm already a littttttle bit stir-crazy. So I'm sort of dreading being cooped up all winter, but I'm hoping to find a good rhythm of working, reading, puzzling, watching movies, cooking, baking and UGH I need to start working out again!!! The wedding is in 284 days and the quarantine diet has not been my friend. I'll take any and all recommendations for at-home work out & nutrition programs, please! I really really do want to look and feel my best come September, and with a whole extra year to prep I really have no excuses!

What I'm Working On

Decorating for Christmas! It's dawning on me now that several of these prompts will be Christmas related... whoops. Last weekend Les and I got a jump on getting our apartment holiday-ready! It's unfortunate that no one will really see it this year in person because our place gets oh so cozy at Christmas time. I'll most likely do a full post on how we decorated this year, but here's a little sneak peak of our Merry Christmas sign in our bedroom, and our advent calendar (which we fill with Sweet Sloops from Harbor Sweets. Anyone familiar?!). I bought our calendar last year and can't find it online, but this one is really similar!

What I'm Excited About

Christmas... duh. I love love love love love everything about this time of year. And I'm so excited to get into Christmas tv and movie mode! First up will be the latest season of The Great British Baking Show on Netflix. I know that's not necessarily holiday-themed, but something about it just embodies the festive and cozy feel of Christmas. I'm also hoping to get into some holiday baking myself, even if it is just for Les and I! Normally I host a cookie exchange at my place (this year would have been the third annual), but I just can't seem to work out how that would happen virtually. But I'm still planning to do some baking, and maybe I'll send some cookies out with our Christmas cards :).These were the cookies I made for the cookie swap last year!

Back to Christmas movies... the other "musts" on my list every year are Elf and Love Actually (Les and I always watch Love Actually on the night we exchange gifts with each other, ever since college)! I don't think I've watched The Holiday in a few years, so that will probably make the list, too.

The other thing I can't wait to do is gift-wrap. I already wrapped our first present of the year the other night for Les's secret Santa among his friend group. I just loveee the art of wrapping a present, adding the perfect adornment, and sending it off to someone. I can't say I'm even THAT good at it. I just love to put on a Christmas movie and wrap the night away. This was a wrapped-stack from last year!

What I'm Watching/Reading Ok watching and then reading. Les and I are on the final few episodes of Friends after staring the show from the very beginning! So in addition to wrapping that up, we also just finished the latest season of The Crown, and we're watching HBO's The Undoing with Nicole Kidman. Anyone else gasp out loud at the ending of the latest episode?!

The other thing we recently re-watched was Uncut Gems for the second time. That movie is 135 minutes of pure stress. If you haven't seen it, I do recommend it; it's a great movie. Just be sure to have some popcorn or other sort of snack on-hand to munch on nervously.

As far as what I'm reading goes, I'm finishing up the newly released HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style by Elizabeth Holmes. I wrote a little bit more about this book on my most recent Friday Favorites, but it would make the perfect gift for any fan of The Crown, especially this latest season featuring Diana!

What I'm Listening To

I'm not quite at Christmas music yet... but mark my words I will be on December 1. I've spent the past few years perfecting my Christmas playlist and I'm ready to have it on repeat. In the meantime, I haven't been listening to a whole lot of anything besides the sound of my computer keyboard. And Nestlie with her squeaky toys. Always with the squeaky toys.

What I'm Wearing

All. The. Comfy. Clothes. At home it's been leggings, joggers, sweaters, and slippers as of late. In particular, I've been living in this sherpa pullover. As much as I love fashion (fall fashion in particular) and putting together a chic outfit for the holidays, I'm very much welcoming the more casual and comfortable look that I've been embracing, and which will be inevitable for the holidays this year without the gatherings and parties. I will say that something I always pull out this time of year is anything plaid. I just got this black-watch plaid shirt from J. Crew Factory and it pairs perfect with jeans or even a black skirt!

What I'm Doing this Weekend

I'm really excited to have some time off from work (starting today!) and enjoy Thanksgiving. It will definitely not be the celebration we're used to with either Les's family or mine, but we will be able to see my parents, enjoy some yummy comfort food, and really just reflect on how much we have to be thankful for this year. That's what it's all about, right? Just for fun, here's a photo of my little fam from a few Thanksgivings ago!

What I'm Looking forward to Next Month

Again I say Christmas... duh. In particular, my family is about to start a brand new tradition at my sister's house. She and my BIL moved into their very first house this summer, and it came with a Christmas Tree farm. It's something out of a fairy tale. So needless to say, that's where Les and I will be getting our Christmas Tree from now on! We already tagged our tree for this year on our most recent visit. I can't WAIT to cut it down and get it all decorated!

What else is New

I wish there were more to report! We're just sort of plugging away, anxiously awaiting the New Year and all that 2021 will bring. First up in terms of wedding festivities will be my bridal shower in June, and I'm just really hoping that I'll be able to gather in person with all of my favorite women. But before that we of course have Christmas and New Years and then Valentine's Day, which will mark two years since Les proposed! Which is so hard to believe. Not what we planned at all, but hey. What's another year of enjoying being engaged?!

I hope everyone has a really nice, relaxing, and most of all safe Thanksgiving. See you next week!!
